About
The Physiology Research Center is one of the oldest research centers of Semnan University of Medical Sciences and health Services. It received preliminary approval in 2004 and final approval from the Ministry in 2007. The center is located within the educational complex of university and currently, according to the scientometric system, 10 faculty members are actively engaged in research activities at this center.
The center hosts active research laboratories in various fields under the supervision and guidance of its faculty members. The main research areas of the physiology research center of university include neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, neuroanatomy, molecular neurobiology, neurobiology of learning and memory (behavioral and electrophysiological), cerebral vascular function in animal models, peripheral neuropathy, hemodynamic changes in animal models, neural and muscular conduction, wound healing, and clinical sciences such as neuropsychology and neuropathology. Recently, a new research line has been established focusing on diabetes, the study of new anti-diabetic drugs, and diabetic complications, particularly diabetic nephropathy.
The physiology research center is equipped with numerous facilities and capabilities, including: electrophysiology laboratories for LTP recording and single-unit activity recording, measurement of nerve and muscle conduction velocity, behavioral learning and memory tests such as passive avoidance learning, fear conditioning, spatial learning and memory (Morris water maze), and motor activity assessment; behavioral-molecular studies of pain (neuropathy and acute/chronic pain); behavioral studies of addiction and anxiety; stroke models (ischemia, edema, and vascular permeability) in laboratory animals; vascular activity evaluation (blood pressure changes); traumatic brain injury assessment; microdialysis; protein and enzyme measurement; behavioral studies of stress and depression; wound and burn healing and tensile strength evaluation in laboratory animals; studies on the effects of exercise on physiological processes; and electrophysiology of kindling.
The physiology research center is ready to provide research services and conduct research projects in collaboration with students and research centers both inside and outside the country.
